My green home

For this assignment we had to design a home that would comfortably house the class containing 27 people in 3500 square feet. We were also encouraged to make it a green home. So I did it.

In my house I have nine bedrooms each able to sleep three people comfortably. There are also one and a half bathrooms one containing a toilet and sink the other having five showers, four sinks, three urinals, and four toilets. The toilets urinals and shower heads are low flow or minimal gallon pre flush. There is also a large dining/living room and kitchen. All of the appliances are energy saving and modern.

The materials used to build the home were also as green as possible. The plywood was recycled along with reused block, steal roofing, and hard wood floors for the dining and entry area.

Also to make it green and energy efficient I’m installing a geothermal heating and cooling system along with in floor heat on the ground level. This system will allow for the exchange of cold water to hot by using the natural ground heat to warm the cold water. I also am installing a system that will collect rainwater, filter it, and use it to flush toilets. Even the windows in my home will be energy efficient employing three panes of glass for better insulation. Speaking of insulation all of the walls, floor, and ceiling will have properly installed R-19 batt insulation. The final bit of green construction that will be used on my home is the trees that I plan to plant around it which will make oxygen and provide shade and wind blockage.

All of the bedrooms in my house are 12 feet by 15 feet except for the sixth one which is 16feet by 15 feet while the large bathroom is 16 feet by 14 feet. The kitchen is 20 by 20, and the dining slash living room is 32 by 20. the smallest bathroom is 6 by 6 and the stairs are 8 by 3.
